WEST ALABAMA CHAPTER RESPONDS TO MULTIPLE FIRES
Eight families and twenty-three individuals were affected by fires destroying their homes all in the space of under 24 hours. Residents of two apartment complexes, Rosedale Apartments and Creekwood Apartments, and a single family fire were assisted by the West Alabama Chapter of the American Red Cross. All of the victims that were impacted received immediate disaster relief. The Chapter is requesting that the public make donations to the local disaster fund to assist these and other local families who are victims of disaster. DISASTER SERVICES
We Respond
Anytime a disaster strikes, The American Red Cross West Alabama Chapter responds at a moment's notice to help the victims with immediate needs and to help to rebuild their lives.
We Assist
Once the emergency phase of a disaster has passed, trained American Red Cross West Alabama Chapter volunteers meet with disaster victims and provide them with the means to get back on their feet. This is done by offering vouchers to purchase essentials like food, furniture and clothing.
We Comfort
American Red Cross West Alabama Chapter mental health workers are available to help people cope with the emotional aftermath of disasters. They provide a hand to hold, an ear for listening, and a shoulder to rest on.
We Study
All American Red Cross West Alabama Chapter disaster workers are trained to provide major disaster response functions of mass care, damage assessment, and family services.
We Donate
Disaster Services are offered to victims free of charge through the generous support of our donors. No payment for disaster relief services is ever requested or expected. The American Red Cross West Alabama Chapter offers it as a gift from the American people.
HEALTH and SAFETY SERVICES
We Teach
The American Red Cross West Alabama Chapter offers health and safety education programs to corporations and community members to teach people how to avoid emergencies and to change the outcomes of potentially fatal situations.
We Coach
The American Red Cross West Alabama Chapter trains more lifeguards than all other organizations combined, making us the industrial leader in aquatics safety programs.
We Aid
First Aid and CPR courses illustrate how to "Check, Call and Care" when an accident is encountered. The West Alabama Chapter provides:

MILITARY SERVICES
We Communicate
A twenty-four hour emergency communication system to military bases around the world is the primary military service that the American Red Cross West Alabama Chapter provides. The messages are usually urgent in nature, dealing with births, the death of close family members, or illness.
We Provide
The American Red Cross West Alabama Chapter also provides financial assistance to military families in the form of an interest-free loan or grant. Loans or grants are often given to help pay for emergency travel or to help meet household needs if circumstances have created a hardship.
We Link
Through International Tracing Services, The American Red Cross West Alabama Chapter helps local residents recover lost communications with relatives cut off from the rest of the world due to a natural disaster or civil unrest. We are a messenger of hope for people around the world.
