Disaster Relief Volunteer

Minimum age 21; great for 55+;  interest area---Crisis Support, Disaster Relief, Emergency and Safety.

Dependable volunteers with a clear criminal history are needed for Disaster Relief in local and national disasters.  Training will be provided.

Disaster Services Administrative Assistant 

Dependable Volunteers are needed for data entry, maintaining Disaster Services Training Records, scheduling Volunteers, answering telephone and general clerical duties.

Excellent communication and computer skills are required. Pleasant telephone voice is a must.  Training will be provided.

                       VOLUNTEERS  NEEDED!!!!!

THE  EMERGENCY  RESPONSE  VEHICLE  (ERV)  VOLUNTEERS  provide a variety of services to individuals affected by a wide range of disasters quickly and efficiently, including feeding clients and staff, and providing a place for Individual Client Services workers to meet with and interview clients during inclement weather.  

INDIVIDUAL  CLIENT  CASEWORK  VOLUNTEERS  provide immediate emergency assistance to those individuals who may be impacted by man-made or natural disasters, ranging from single-family home incidents to major events such as tornados, floods, hurricanes, and catastrophic incidents.

DISASTER  MENTAL  HEALTH  VOLUNTEER  INSTRUCTORS  train disaster mental health volunteers to make sure the emotional needs of people affected by disasters are met, and help assure the the emotional well-being of Red Cross disaster workers.

COMMUNITY  EDUCATORS  conduct Health and Safety and Disaster presentations to schools and the community.  

VOLUNTEERS  NEEDED  DURING  OFFICE  HOURS  (8a-4:30p)  to provide assistance with day-to-day operation of office as well as to assist with conducting community education classes.

****Volunteers willing to travel and commit 1 - 3 weeks to  NATIONAL  DISASTER  assignments also needed.

           VOLUNTEER  SERVICE  AREAS  DESCRIPTIONS

Administrative  services are to provide assistance in office administration by answering the telephone, routing

calls, and taking messages; light typing, data entry, and filing.  Assists in preparation of mailings, and course materials

packaging; copying, faxing, and other basic office work.

Armed Forces Emergency Services  to assist with providing emergency communications between U.S. service

members and their families for reasons such as Health and Welfare verification; Birth, Hospitalization, or Death of a

family member.  The volunteer takes calls while maintaining confidentiality of caller and service member.  An interview

is conducted to obtain relevant information needed to process the request.  The information is verified and necessary

documentation completed.  The message is routed to the appropriate authorities.

Biomedical Services  to provide assistance with blood drives.  The volunteer will greet donors and assist with

registration; label blood collection packs; escort donor to canteen area; and serve as canteen host, observing

donor, providing refreshments, and conversation.

Community Services  to provide casework assistance to services offered through American Red Cross, such as

Single-Family Fires, and Armed Forces Emergency Services, Disaster, and Project Share.

Disaster Services  provides client casework to those affected by fires and other disasters.  Initiates and manages

responses to disasters, including single-family disasters and larger events.  Staff is responsible for providing initial

sheltering; conducting fixed and mobile feeding operations; staff local government emergency operations centers and

 contact and/or coordinate with local government and partner relief agencies; and assess the impact of the disaster.

Public Relations and Marketing  provides assistance to the Public Support Coordinator with responding to media

requests with accurate information; involvement and services to media; assistance to disaster or other emergency

site.  The marketing aspect involves assistance with the distribution of posters/flyers to targeted locations, businesses,

and schools for events; coordinate site logistics and signage; and provide support for volunteer coordination and

recruitment.

Health and Safety Services  provides training in Babysitting, First Aid, CPR, HIV/AIDS, Aquatics, and Water Safety.

Volunteers may be interested in being trained to serve as instructors, lifeguards, and peer educators.

Youth Programs  enables young people to be advocates for their peers as well as provide information and training

for pre-school through 12th grade.  The Youth in Emergency Services (YiES) program enables young people to

participate in efforts to prepare for and respond to emergencies.
